My youngest daughter inspired this pastel painting, standing in the glow of a chilly late summer sunset, wrapped in a red blanket that mirrored the sky above. At the time I was experimenting with various papers and this one was done on a brown paper bag, the epitome of the starving artist's supplies.
Carrie Viscome Skinner was born in Fulton NY in 1952 and now resides in the woods in Sterling NY with her Husband of 40+ years, a dog named Raven and about 20 chickens. Though Carrie studied art through college and museum courses she considers herself mostly a self-taught artist. She began her art career in the 1960's painting and selling portraits in acrylics, watercolors and pastels. She has also worked with various other media including silk screen printing, clay, wood and stone sculpting, fiber arts, and jewelry making and creating small, personalized books filled with her poetry and art.
